Lisa Scarsi takes all sorts of pictures, but one of her most-special specialties is pet photography. And, during the month of February, booking any sort of photo session with Lisa Scarsi Photography will help a particular pet in crisis.

Portraits for Paws

Lilly is a homeless, 6-year-old Pomeranian with a bladder stone. She lost her human companion to cancer six months ago, and has spent the past five months at Friends of Orange County’s Homeless Pets. She will eventually be looking for a new family to love and be loved by, but not before she has surgery to have the bladder stone removed.

Lilly the Pomeranian

Lilly is friendly to humans and dogs, alike. (Cats, not so much.) At only 5 lbs., she would would make a great companion for the right feline-free person or family. But that bladder stone — which can’t be shrunk via medication — is threatening both her life and her chance to find her new forever home.

The surgery and aftercare will cost between $800 and $1500.

And that’s where Lisa Scarsi Photography comes in. Book a photo session with Lisa Scarsi Photopgraphy during the month of February (whether for pet photography, maternity photography, family portraits, senior pictures, or just to get professional pics of your kids), and 30% of your session fee will be donated to Friends of Orange County’s Homeless Pets to help with paying for Lilly’s much-needed surgery.

Help save this adorable Pomeranian!

As much as Lisa would love to take your picture, she’d also like for you to know that donations can made directly to FOCHP, too! I’ve been working on calendars this year and the first one is called Furry Faces. This calendar contains a whole year of adorable furry faces that I photographed pro bono to help get these pets homes!! It is a CD Jewel Case calendar (5″x 5.5″) so it will fit nicely on a desktop or counter and the images/pages sit in the CD case holder. The first edition of this calendar was printed as a fundraiser for FOCHP (Friends of Orange County’s Homeless Pets). I work with a few rescue groups but most of my rescue portraits are of FOCHP pets. The good news is all proceeds from the sale of this calendar will go to FOCHP to help them save even more pets next year. So buy it and get your friends to buy it (and their friends too). You’ll have cute Furry Faces to look at all year (to be specific . . . over 20 pups and 2 kittens). You can feel good about helping to get more rescue pets good homes. AND there is no reason to feel sorry for the pets in the calendar because due to the incredible efforts of the amazing rescue volunteers at FOCHP  most of these furry faces are now  living in a loving home (I think everyone but the last bumper crop of kittens has a home.)   How’s that for a warm fuzzy?!   If you are interested in adopting a pet go to your local rescue or shelter! There are tons of furry faces who would love to meet you!!  Next year,  I would love to expand the distribution of the Furry Faces calendar to help as many rescue groups and shelters as possible.  We could also use some local businesses to sponsor the printing of more calendars so that even more funds can be raised!! If you are with a local Southern California business and would like to help sponsor the calendar’s printing cost please contact me!! (my personal piggy bank is running low :)

Pet Portrait Bloopers

September 7, 2011

A while back I started a folder I named “Bloopers” and after a few weeks I forgot all about it. If things don’t have a deadline or a pulse, sometimes they slip my mind. Plants never make it long at my house. Today I came across the folder and some of these are just so funny I had to share. Hope they make you giggle a bit and want to hug your dog, cat, kid or random stranger. I thought I’d add the pets comments . . .

I often say dogs lead me to the nicest people and so often this is true. Hercules is one of those dogs. Herc has a very interesting story to tell. I’m not a great storyteller, but I will try. In June of last year I got a call from his mom Leslie. She called me to set up a portrait session for Hercules, her 5 year old pit bull and his best buddy Kylie, her 2 year old daughter. Herc had cancer and probably didn’t have long to live. Leslie wanted photos of the two of them together so that Kylie would have some way of remembering their special bond. I was so saddened to hear about Herc’s condition and sadder to think that he would soon leave a little girl heartbroken. Herc had already lost a leg to cancer so we scheduled the session right away. We did the session and the images got some media attention. My favorite is an article that was published on the Best Friends site, written by Roni Raczkowski. You can read all about how Herc came to his home with Leslie and Kylie. It is an interesting tale about the power of love.

Our meeting spawned a little arrangement whereby I photograph pets for FOCHP pro bono and the images help the pets to get adopted quicker. The FOCHP folks are wonderful and I love being able to help in some small “photographical” way. You could say Hercules led me to FOCHP and led me to do more work for rescues. Well, to the surprise and extreme delight of us all, Hercules is still with us!!! He is doing very well and the cancer is in remission. At least for now, he gets to enjoy his family and the wonderful life that Leslie has given him. I get to see Herc sometimes at adoption events and/or photo sessions for FOCHP fosters and I have vowed to photograph him and Kylie every year that he is with us. It’s the least I can do for a dog, a breed, and a family who has inspired me so.

Kitten-palooza

July 13, 2011

There were eight of them and only four of us. We were outnumbered. They did not care to listen to any direction. They did not want to pose. They were there to perform and get paid handsomely for their talents. They were in control and boy were they cute!!

Thanks to my kitten wranglers Karen, Angelo and Sophia. Thanks to FOCHP for caring enough to save these guys and find them homes.

Christmas in July!!

July 11, 2011

Yep, it’s hot, it’s summer and the perfect time to think about Christmas. No I haven’t been standing in the sun too long. I mean it. If you really wanna get a jump on your Christmas “to do” list start by booking a session for your family portraits this summer in July or August. It’s the perfect time of year to do portraits, you’re tan, the days are longer (so you have more shooting time in great light outdoors) and you have lots less to do now than in November or December. To nudge you just a bit we’re offering a special limited edition “Christmas in July” promotion. Book and complete your session in July or August and you get a studio session and a set of 24 amazing cards for $175 (location sessions offered at $225 for the session and cards). That is $75 off the regular price!! Fa, la, la, la, la!! If you don’t want/need Christmas cards then you can substitute two 8×10 prints for the cards. (fine print: Card design/print order must be completed by 9-15-11. No procrastinating!! Session fee must be paid at the time of booking to hold your spot. This offer valid for family portraits up to 5 people, pet portraits or childrens portraits. A limited number of bookings will be taken. Once our shooting schedule is full, no more Christmas in July sessions can be obtained for 2011.) Call the studio to book your session at 714 255-1382. Christmas card sampler

A while back I tossed together a Facebook page just for my pet business. It seemed to me that I had a lot of folks wanted to see my pet photos with and just about every one of them was active on FB. Facebook makes it soooo easy to share images I update it just about every day. I started a little daily practice of posting one pet photo a day. I call it the “Fur du Jour”. I have almost 600 folks that follow it and they just keep ‘a coming. Stop by yourself, hit the “Like” key and share with your friends. Screen shot 2011-03-22 at 2.21.02 PM

It’s that time of the year.  Christmas cards, baking, decorating and Shopping!!   I’ve been super busy thanks to all my wonderful clients and I’ve met so many new kids and fur-babies too.  It’s really been a blast of a season so far.  Some of my clients asked for a gift card to give to their relatives and so I’ve put together two gift cards that are perfect for the holidays.   They both include a studio session and a “gift” product.  The nice thing is the recipient gets to choose their photo product.  They can choose a photo bag, custom notecards or two 8×10 custom prints.   The value of the gift card is $250 but I am selling them for a limited time for $175 for the pet session card and $200 for the children’s session card.  The cards can be purchased by calling the studio at 714 255-1382 or by e-mail request using PayPal (just send and e-mail to info@lisascarsi.com and you will receive a PayPal bill)   Your gift cards will be mailed to you or to your recipient.      Each gift card has a specific serial # and does not expire.    The best thing is . . . you can even buy one for yourself to use.  Self serve Santa frequents my house often : ))
